It's true that Ghost doesn't do much at this point in the story, but it would still be nice to remind people that he's there. As it stands right now, the brand new viewer saw Jon pull up the runt, get laughed at and told that one's his, then we haven't seen it again for three episodes. When Ghost finally does show up, it will be kind of out of nowhere if they don't establish him.

Yeah, that's true. I can understand them needing to cut the unimportant bits from the script, though. The show already seems like a scene-checklist; I'm sure it's hard to fit everything in there. Then again, it wouldn't really have taken any more screentime to show the wolf standing beside Jon while he talked to Tyrion on the ride north, would it? Meh.

I think that making Jaime and Ned more antogonistic toward each other will make the future scene where Jaime orders the death of Ned's entire guard more cutting, and will establish Jaime as a higher level villain in the minds of the viewers before he's captured by Robb and before we get to see his side of things in the third season (hopefully).

Yeah, I understand what they're doing. I guess my complaint is that it feels like the antagonism between the houses was already in place during the very first episode, rather than being allowed to gradually develop over the course of Ned's time in the south. I guess it's probably a pacing issue, though. Maybe the writers don't feel they have time to slowly establish the Lannister villainy. As you say, some of the later scenes would probably seem jarring without a solid base of hatred and venom.

I'll buy that. :)
