I'm not enjoying this season as much as the first season. The show it just going *too* fast now. There are so many missed story lines. I wanted to know more about Isobel, and John and Katherine and the werewolves and the council. I am very very interested in seeing more of the sheriff. From her perspective, her world just turned upside down. She's working so hard to defend against vampires only to find out that the town is overrun with them.
Speaking of, I thought that the sheriff knew that Tyler's father was a werewolf- it showed on her face when she found out that the mayor was taken. And then she was so shocked that tyler's a werewolf? It didn't seem that she was surprised that the curse was activated but that the werewolf thing was new to her.
I also really liked John, I think he's consistently been doing the right things. The main reason why Elena and everyone else is so mad at him is he participated in last season's mass execution of vampires, which was incredibly successful and on the whole the right thing to do. Certainly the lesser of two evils- compared to letting the tomb vampires slaughter the townspeople. Even if John succeeded in executing both Damon and Stephan, activating the device was the right thing to do. Even when they don't kill people they're still parasites and drains on society (raiding the hospital's blood supply is not a victimless crime!)
Probably I'm still mad at them for torturing and killing Mason. Still not over that. It wasn't just Damon- the rest of the gang participated too and at the least gave tacit approval. Bonnie and Jeremy. Until that episode, I thought Bonnie was the sane compassionate one but that didn't last. These aren't "good guys".
Buffy- she was saving the world and rescuing people left and right. These people are driven by their selfish desires. Even Elena-she just wants to keep the people she loves alive, even at the expense of others.

Elijah just ran away, right? Too fast for Bonnie to wham them? She should have moved to kill as soon as she saw Elijah hesitating, but I understand that it's a trigger that's difficult to pull, and in that split second, she hesitated and that cost them.
What leverage does Elijah have over Klaus now, to ensure he gets the answers he wants? How long will Klaus be weakened? It was an effective gamble by Klaus and there was no way Elijah couldn't go for it, but it's going to end badly for him.
I liked John Gilbert; when he last came back to the series, he was so intense & sexy. And an incredible resource - he really saved the day at the last moment. Also, where did he get the dagger? And how did the Gilbert journals have so much cret and useful information in them? Were witches operating in the open then, or just with Council's knowledge? The Council - that's another storyline that could have been much better explored, but it's been just tossed by the roadside in the show's mad rush forward.
I really want them to do stuff with Sheriff Forbes. She better not be killed next episode. Think about it from her perspective - she's utterly alone, surrounded by monsters, people she trusted, her family. And vampires are monsters. They are a public health menace. The best thing the Council did was 1) burn those 29 vampires, and 2) in last season's finale, kill them again. And now it's just her against them all.
Oh yeah, so - John Gilbert - if they had included him in the loop, everything might have gone much better. As it was, he only got a few minutes' warning and even in that time, managed to pull something that saved the day. We still don't know if he was working for Katherine at one point.
