Maybe I could see owning some if they were true classics, but otherwise, I don't see the point.

Perhaps someone could explain it to me, please.

I don't want to rely on a film being on TV regularly (commercial breaks, no end credits, annoying as fuck) or having it on a burned CD. I want the box, it's shiny, it has the film in top quality and I can watch it whenever I want. Which is often for some films. They may not be classics for the guy who writes for a French movie magazine, but they are for me.

When it comes to shows, I kinda see your point. How often do you actually sit down and watch a show? But it happens, with the very best ones at least.
