Given that I understand nothing about the film industry, is it impossible for them to have started from the originals (you know, clean it all up and make sure the originals were saved as the first step) and then move forward and do whatever else to them with the newer technology? It just seems wrong to me to take something so many people Love and change it w/o making an effort to keep the original version (in a way that allows them to be upgraded onto different platforms).
I don't think I'm whining, but I genuinely DON'T want to watch the updated material as my main option. I'll have to keep a DVD player to watch them in the future, even when everyone else switches over to the next new thing.

The answer is to ignore the Blu-Ray release and buy the 2006 release instead.
