I'm currently watching season 5 of Criminal Minds on our OnDemand service. (I love serial killer programmes.)
One member of the team is Dr Reid, a super genius guy aged 27 with something like two PhDs and a couple more Bachelor degrees. He has also has almost no interaction with modern culture.
Sound familiar? Dr Temperance Brennan ring any bells?
Why do writers think that super-smart people know nothing about films, books or movies?
More specifically, why would a guy who has a degree in psychology NOT have heard of A Clockwork Orange? (Granted, the show referenced the film as if the book didn't exist, but the point stands.) Haven't most intelligent people in the English-speaking world heard of this book/film? Or is it not something well-known in the US?
I'd love to see a crime show (they're always in crime shows) with a genius character who fully interacts with modern culture. I think that fits the nerd stereotype a little better, actually.
Can anyone suggest anything? And am I ranting about nothing?
