Doctor Who coming to the big screen. Nate Send a noteboard - 14/11/2011 08:32:19 PM
Yes, it's true. No, it's not what you're thinking. Yes, Camilla is probably going to throw something, so you might want to seek cover.

Apparently a new Doctor Who movie is in the beginning stages of production, which means no story and no actors yet, just important people attaching their names and laying the groundwork. It will not, however, be a part of the current ongoing tv series. No Matt Smith, no Steven Moffat.

David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter movies, is joining with BBC to produce a non-continuity reboot-style Doctor Who film that will have no connection to the tv series beyond, presumably, the TARDIS and a time-travelling alien named the Doctor.

Personally I'm okay with this. It doesn't affect the tv series at all, so no worries on that count. You can argue against the principle of the thing, but I'm not really bothered by new visions of established stories.

What do you think of this? And who do you think should play the big-screen Doctor? Is there even a reasonable chance that it won't be Johnny Depp?
