She's well-built and strong, not the usual Hollywood tiny figure.
(Her mother-in-law was the guidance counsellor at my high school. We got lots of gossip because said MIL didn't like her. Naughty lady.)

But she's really not as big as we think she is. When she was playing Xena, whenever there were shots of her in non Xena costume, it was shocking how slim she looked.
There was even an episode (in one of the later seasons, at the point where they totally embraced making fun of themselves) where Xena actually yelled: "I will CRUSH YOU with my things of DOOM!" Xena was playing someone else in that scene, but that was beside the point. It was awesome.
But yeah- like I said in the first place, I do think Lucy Lawless is the best example of a woman in an action role so far.

How many men did she beat in those fights?

Haywire may not be the best example

So: Action roles should have bigger women.

Actually, Buffy is worse because it implies women need magic to be useful.

Joyce comes to mind. And Tara - she hardly ever uses her magic. Oh, and Darla.

I really doubt the outfit did much to make Xena look big.

Lucy Lawless is pretty much Amazonian.

It's true that she's not as tiny as others.

"Not as tiny as the others" is about the best you can say for her.

Indeed. See for example, any Robin Hood made in the last 20 years. Maid Marian HAS to fight. *NM*

She is some kind of super hero in super hero movie, is't she? *NM*

I don't think she's technically supposed to have super powers.

I thought Sarah Connor in T2: Judgment Day was a realistic portrayal of the action heroine.

It just depends on how much you're willing to accept.

You're nitpicking and drawing an arbitrary line. All action is ridiculously unbelievable. *NM*

Maybe. I just feel there's a distinction between "one in a million" and "impossible."
