I also thought PETA Wilson was pretty convincing as La Femme Nikita in the tv show. She's tall and broad shouldered, a bit androgynous even.
I like seeing arm muscles on women. I really like it when action roles are played by burly women, even if it's relatively to tv kind of burly, I'll take what I can get. I'll definitely try to see Haywire, and hopefully there will be more of that.
And as far as realism, all the adventure action movies are pure fantasy. The things the heros do are implausible for humans living in the real world, period; man or woman, becomes irrelevant in the scale of implausibility we're already faced with. All that stuff is 1. Entertainment and 2. Fantasy fulfillment, so why not have women heroes along with the men?

Actually, Buffy is worse because it implies women need magic to be useful.

Joyce comes to mind. And Tara - she hardly ever uses her magic. Oh, and Darla.

I really doubt the outfit did much to make Xena look big.

"Not as tiny as the others" is about the best you can say for her.

Indeed. See for example, any Robin Hood made in the last 20 years. Maid Marian HAS to fight. *NM*

I thought Sarah Connor in T2: Judgment Day was a realistic portrayal of the action heroine.

You're nitpicking and drawing an arbitrary line. All action is ridiculously unbelievable. *NM*

Maybe. I just feel there's a distinction between "one in a million" and "impossible."
