Re: Foreign movies! Colonel Logain Send a noteboard - 26/09/2009 01:44:50 PM
I suppose 'foreign', on a site as multi-national as this, can have many different meanings, generally I am referring to 'non-hollywood', or perhaps 'non-english', but answer how you wish.

I'm referring to movies where English is not the main language spoken.

Do you enjoy watching foreign movies? Animated or live-action?

Yes, mainly live action.

What are your all time favorites?

Pan's Labyrinth (Spanish) is probably my favourite movie of all time. I also really enjoyed Rec (Spanish, which I can't find on DVD anywhere , Persepolis (French) and Hero (Chinese).

Which cultures (nations) films do you find yourself most interested in?

Spanish.

Do you prefer dubs over original language, in live-action and/or animated?

I prefer subtitles over dubbing. When the film uses dubs, the lip-synching is off, which I find irritating (except in Kung-Pow, but that was the whole point)

How did you find yourself becoming interested in foreign films, (i.e. Audrey Tautou obsession, Asian horror obsession, general interest in foreign culture)?

I was watching the Oscars one year and I saw Pan's Labyrinth win 3 Oscars. About 2 months later I came across it at the DVD store and thought I may as well see what all the fuss is about. I absolutely loved it (I watched it 3 times that week) and since then I've become a bit of a fan of foreign films.

What 'hyped' foreign film has let you down upon viewing it (if any)?

Can't think of any off the top of my head actually.

How do you feel about remakes, are there any that have been pulled off successfully?

Well, I thought Quarantine was okay, but nothing beats the original.

That's all .

I have nothing to add. I just wanted to be included in this thread.
