I felt it was strongly hinted in the books Mark Send a noteboard - 10/04/2012 01:30:01 PM
Not from a lust point of view (as Stannis is too honour bound to cheat), but that it was necessary for the creation of the shadow child. I imagine Stannis would of closed his eyes and thought of the Realm during the act.

There seemed to be more lust involved in the TV version.
