We're not after some sort of archival efficiency, here, where we attempt to preserve the legend of Spiderman without expending unnecessary resources. We're just getting a new movie with a familiar setting and character list, that's all. And we're getting it a full five years after the last Spiderman movie. I don't know about you, but I'm perfectly happy to watch Spiderman zoom around New York every five years or so, and I don't see what's so dumb about that.
If it were a continuation of the Spider-Man myths it would be great. It's not though. It's retelling a story that was told in the not too distant past. If an origin story is what's being told then the first movie of Rami's trilogy was great at that. Just tell a different story building on that.
Kirk: Spock, you want to know something? Everybody’s human.
Spock: I find that remark…insulting.
