Could be a language issue again. jh Send a noteboard - 28/09/2009 06:27:21 PM
Really?
Why didn't you like it?

It was ridiculously pompous... very american, in that aspect. The movie was totally without self irony, and considering how they kept to facts and other bothersome details, it was a mistake to take the humour out of it. Also, the plot wasn't a plot, it was an excuse to show as many fights as possible.

Pompous? How so?

The plot isn't THAT fleshed out, but Gladiator is just a good ol' revenge story. If you have a problem with that you don't like movies about vengeance, not necessarily Gladiator.

Vengeance isn't a problem. One of my favourite books of all time is the Count of Monte Cristo, and perhaps not for the vengeance part of the story, but still, it does sort of play into everything there...

But the pomposity is likely a language issue. But you know. Everything should be so damn 'just' and 'freedom' plays a big part... it just makes the whole thing so incredibly stupid in its rethoric. Fails miserably on the pathos when it comes to me as a viewer, and it didn't try for logos. ethos... perhaps there were some, but they hid it well.
