Thought I'd post this here, normally on the CMB but it's probably a better fit here and I don't think there's necessarily 100% cross-traffic nor are we really overflowing with threads on either board.

  1. (2 pts) In 1979 Ridley Scott directed a Sci-Fi film that had the tagline “In space no one can hear you scream". Name the film, and name the lead actress.

  2. (2 pts) Harrison Ford would star in Scott’s next film, in 1982, based on a book by Phillip K. Dick, what was the name of the film? What was the name of the book?

  3. (4 Pts) Phillip K. Dick also wrote the inspiration for two other major movies, a 1990 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was recently remade, and a 2002 film starring Tom Cruise and Directed by Steven Spielberg. Name both films and the books by Dick each was based off of.

  4. (3 pts) Spielberg has directed his fair share of science fiction films, including a 2005 film starring Tom Cruise, a 1982 film which had one of the earliest appearance of actress Drew Barrymore, and a 2001 film which featured among others actor William Hurt. Each of these movies included extra-terrestrial intelligence at some point, name all three films.

  5. (1 pts) Drew Barrymore made an even earlier film appearance in a 1980 sci-fi film starring William Hurt, the first big screen film for both actors, though both had previously appeared in Made-for-TV films. Name that film.

  6. (4 pts) William Hurt later did another Sci-fi Film in 2000, this one a Made-for-TV miniseries, based on a famous sci-fi book written in 1965. Name the character he played, the mini-series, the name of the author, and the name of the book. (Hint: The second part is the sum of the third and fourth)

  7. (2 pts) Hurt went on to star opposite Edward Norton in an incredible 2008 Film. Name the film and the character played by Edward Norton.

  8. (3 pts) Norton did not reprise his role when the character in the aforementioned film next appeared assaulting a mischievous god in this 2012 film directed by Joss Whedon also starring Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel Jackson. Name the 2012 Film, Downey’s Character, and Jackson’s.

  9. (4 pts) Samuel Jackson has starred in several sci-fi films over the years including a movie trilogy whose installments came out in 1999, 2002, and 2005, and two films based off books by Michael Crichton, one coming out in 1993 directed by Steven Spielberg, and another in 1998 co-starring Sharon Stone and Dustin Hoffman. Name the trilogy, his character in them, the 1993 film, and the 1998 film.

  10. (3 pts) Sharon Stone also appeared in a 1990 sci-film directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also directed a film about a cyborg policeman in 1987 and the 1997 film version of a classic sci-fi novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Name the all 3 films.

  11. (4 pts) Robert Heinlein’s aforementioned book is considering a major inspiration of the ‘bug hunt’ flavors of science fiction, along with this 1986 film directed by James Cameron featuring Sigourney Weaver as well as Lance Henriksen and Michael Biehn, who both also starred in a 1984 film directed by Cameron. Name the 1984 film with Henriksen and Biehn, the Actor who co-starred in both that film and opposite Sharon Stone in 1990 film from the last question, the 1986 film with Weaver, and the Character she played.

  12. (2 pts) Some year earlier in her career Sigourney Weaver would star alongside Tom Skeritt in this 1979 film about the various problems faced by a freight ship’s crew, including isolation, concerns about the transport of invasive fauna, and the risks involved in field surgery. Name that Film and its director.
