I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know if all the details fit, but yes, in the book Oberyn spoke to Tyrion about his visit to Casterly Rock when Tyrion was a small child. In fact, what Oberyn said of his family to Tyrion episode 1 made some people afraid it would replace that anecdote (for some reason I don't remember).
