Just saw the two hour pilot. The series has potential, but I had major problems with it. It started off good, showing everybody getting on the ship, the started to switch back and forth between the ship and just before they left. Once they reach the ship, of course there are problems. People are freaked out, scared. There seem to be few people with any experience with Gate travel and Ancient stuffs. There are a couple of setups for ongoing plotlines, which could be intriguing.
My main problem with the pilot is all of the commercials. There are WAY TO DAMN MANY. It really seemed like the show was only 50-60 minutes with all of the commercials that were aired during it. I realize that most hour shows are only 40 minutes long, but this was just ridiculous with the amount and frequency of breaks.
The characters are intriguing and I think the show is going to be more drama oriented than previous Stargates.

I was not excited at all by the preview they kept showing. However, I couldn't not watch a new Stargate.
I got lucky about the commercials, I recorded it so I got to skip, but there sure were a lot of those bastards.
I wasn't bothered by Carter not taking out the ships at all. She's the commander of the Hammond, not the Daedalus, and she said they took out a bunch of Lucian Alliance ships on their way but there were a lot of them. I was glad to see her there, I'm a huge Amanda Tapping fan.
The only thing that really bugged me was those floating cameras. I know they needed an equivalent of MALP's, but that just seemed far too convenient.
Glad I recorded it instead of watching it live, when I did watch it my 10 year old son was at school. He's a huge Stargate fan too, but this one is absolutely not for him!

It's definitely Stargate BSG without Cylons, but I like it well enough to keep watching. *NM*

The Odyssey is a classic fantasical story. Much like King Arthur/Jesus Christ, etc. Great myths.
