Yeah... That definitely didn't seem like someone who hadn't seen them in years.
To me it did (the woman said something like "long time since we saw you", although someone who'd been around them quite a lot before that. Is the boy 10 or so? Then it can't have been more than a year or two since they met, admittedly.
