I don't know about better though ... Colin Firth has his not insignificant charms, of course, but I think Kiera Knightly is a much better Elizabeth than that other lady. I think the new one captures the spirit of the book nearly perfectly ... in less than five hours, I might add, which also adds considerably to its appeal.
and I found that the story had lost all of its magic with her as Elizabeth, it just wasn't the right story. It was much shorter though, and that is good, but I thought it didn't capture the book. That's just my opinion.
