Ah, the never-ending dilemma. Should I watch it first? Or read it first? I really want to read the novel, but I am worried that will make me hate a movie I really want to love (the trailer has made me cry three times already). Conversely, I'm afraid that if I watch the movie first, I will ruin something of the novel's magic.

It's a childhoodnostalgiafilm - half the charm of the movie will be that's it's based on that awesome children's book. You probably need to have the book in your mind to appreciate the movie.

I've a feeling the movie will be quite an expansion of the book.
