So, a silly thing I found distracting... Raserei Send a noteboard - 29/12/2009 07:26:02 AM
One culture arrives from vast distances into a complete other culture, with their own social behaviors, idiosyncrasies, morals, etc.

So why would kissing be even a remotely "acceptable" for the Na'vi? When Jake Sully first kisses Neytiri, how is it even possible that kissing intimately as humans do would appeal, or not in anyway repulse the Na'vi?

It's a stupid quirky thing of course not to be labored upon. But the likelihood of two cultures finding that type of physical contact sensual is, well, astronomical.

Sidenote: Instead of hiding the presumed genitals of the avatars when in their tubes, or walking about, why not just explain them away?

JAKE: They don't got no dicks.

WHINY DUDE FROM DODGEBALL: Yeah, they hide them in their pancreas. Weird, huh?

Or something similar.
That's the whole trouble. You can't ever find
a place that's nice and peaceful, because there isn't any.
You may think there is, but once you get there, when you're not looking,
somebody'll sneak up and write "F*ck you" right under your nose.

~ J. D. Salinger
