It is Star Trek, but to me it was always a cross between TNG and DS9. It had an interesting premise for a couple of back stories (like DS9) even if they didn't act on them as much as they should have. When they did an episode on one of the ongoing stories, it was usually pretty good. Yet the show was episodic like TNG.
It does have some good episodes and some bad episodes, like all Star Trek. The Doctor is always entertaining.
