Out of person preference, I showed them the original trilogy first and it took me years to get the oldest one to categorize the characters correctly and get the timeline straight.

As much as I hate to say it, the best way to do it is to show them in chronological order. That's the only way the little brains can comprehend it.

They won't appreciate the original trilogy as much as we do (at least not until they are older), but at least they will understand it.
