True, but I think that's because they were going for the anime style.

While the cartoon was Asian influenced, the main characters did NOT look Asian, AT ALL!!
Aang? Sorry, looked caucasian to me. (like the rest of the Air tribes)
Katara/Sokka (and most of their Tribes)? Except for their dark skin, I don't see ANY resemblance to the Inuits.
What about Inuit tools, clothes, etc? The creators of the show put a lot of effort into using authentic writing, fighting styles, musical instruments, etc etc. Everything in the context around the characters is Asian, the logical assumption is that they are as well. Most characters in anime don't look very Asian either, but they pretty much definitely are.
The only ones who actually looked like Asians were Zuko/Azula, Toph, and the other Fire/Earth kingdoms.
If the creators of A:TLA are complaining about race-bending, then they should have made most of their characters look like actual Asians, with epicanthic folded or double eyelid eyes. And Didn't the South Water Tribe's princess look WHITE (not just her hair).
I think they were going to for the anime-style big sparkly eyes to make the characters (Aang in particular) look really young and innocent. But that's just conjecture on my part, I suppose you do have a point. Though the Princess definitely had dark skin, I just checked.

Who would you rather see play Aang? That druglord kid from Tropic Thunder? ROFL (he was also young Storm Shadow in GIJoe, who spoke Korean but is supposed to be Japanese?!?!? yeah, don't get me started)
Insert theme music here.

I'm not saying it's an Asian show. You're right, it's totally American.

That would be a great excuse if the lead villain in the movie weren't being played by an Indian.
