I suspect that the world of the holoband is related to the cylon ability of projection; I would also wager that the reason we never saw anything about the holoband in BSG is that it was disbanded after the first cylon war (probably as it was a major tool of the cylons somehow).
That episode with Tamara was pretty frakking cool. What is up with that Neo-like ability she has? I did not expect her to make those code-guards vanish like that!
I cannot help but think that she plays a large role in the future, along with Zoe, for both the holoband-world and the cyclon revolt.

By making it a prequel they have to deal with all the cylon stuff that comes later. To me that's just baggage that will only end up dragging it down.
