I have been hoping to see something like this since I saw the armored suits battle in Paris in GI Joe the movie. All I could think during that scene was "They could totally do Starship Troopers properly now!" Avatar as well, gave tantalizing hints of what could be done without a filmmaker more in love with the computer renderings of his rather unoriginal world than a decent story. As one internet site pointed out, it was the first real chance for an on-screen mech battle in mainstream cinema history, and Cameron gives us... a knife fight with a giant Ewok/Smurf.
The technology is out there, and I just finished my first Dan Abnett novel yesterday (Horus Rising), so there seems to be the promise of good writing and action as well.

That (tentative, I hope) title is terrible. It screams Saturday Night SyFy Channel.
