Sayid looks like whatever corrupted him is turning him into a zombie that can't feel anything. Claire, whom Dogan claimed was corrupted in the same way, just seems insane, but she clearly still has lots of anger and resentment. What exactly is wrong with them?
I feel like the writers are trying to lead us into thinking that they have the same "sickness," but they seem very different (as you said). Claire seems to be going the way of Rousseau, who of course claimed that all the other members of her team got the sickness, whereas I always got the impression that it was her.
So maybe there are a couple of different kinds?
Actually, my impression from the flashbacks was that Rousseau WAS okay. The other guy tried to shoot her when she backed down, after all. And even if she was "sick," better the sickness than turning into a judgmental-willing-to-shoot-a-pregnant-woman-because-she's-unworthy Other.
And regarding Dogen, screw him anyway. What has he ever done beyond a lot of lying and attempts at killing people on short aquaintance to make him credible?
