I try to sometimes make analogies to real-life characters from our history, even including some fictional characters from mythology. I somewhat stand at a loss for an analogy for LTT simply because he excelled in too many areas.
He's talked up to be the leader of the world both politically, physically, as a general, and in the One Power. This is just total overkill--nobody is a total jack of all trades to the point that they exceed the skill of everyone. Michael Jordan could not sing, Albert Einstein could not play ping pong, and General Patton couldn't beat me in Starcraft.
I thought for a bit this might be a case of history becoming twisted into legend, but we've heard enough first-person accounts from the Forsaken where LTT is referred to the greatest man of his Age, and this is backed up by the Encylopedia as well.
Many consider Pride his flaw for thinking he could defeat the Dark One alone. In my opinion, this is total BS--call it utter Bravery, and the realization that humanity was fucked if he didn't make the march with the Hundred Companions. Sure, they made a mistake in how they went about sealing the Bore, and the backlash wreaked terrible havoc on earth--but nothing compared to what would happen had the armies of darkness won (read: end of the universe). The fault goes to the female Aes Sedai for not properly realizing the enormity of the situation and manning up, so to speak. LTT realized what had to be done and did it, whatever the cost.
I just find such a man a tad too unrealistic.

LTT was close to perfect, and he barely managed to eke out a draw with the Shadow.

Bitter is too strong a word. More "conditioned" to search for character flaws in literature...
