I definitely think that Rand's only accomplished one thing in his battle against Shai'tan - The Cleansing, with the second major accomplishment actually being overseen by Elayne, Nynaeve and the Circle who used the Bowl of Winds - mainly, prying Shai'tan's grip from it's tightening around the world's throat.
This is just my interpretation though, and I actually think that the Forsaken are being used to distract Rand from his role and where he should be on the "game board" (ie: re-writing the rules to suit what he needs to do).
