With the idea that the foxhead will be destroyed in a clash with the gholam might be that Mat becomes vulnerable in his dreams again. Rand has his OP wards and Perrin his Wolfbrotherness to protect them.

On the other hand, probably only Moridin might consider to visit Mat's dreams. This seems unlikely, though considering it's such late in the game, that Moridin probably learned the last months that he can't access Mat's dream (therefore there is no reason for Moridin to try it again then) and that Moridin might be too affected by the link to Rand anyway to do much.

In any case, I think it makes sense that a high prize has to be paid to finish the gholam, and sacrificing Mat's super OP protection would fit.
