After all, she was upset that Egwene was captured in KoD, ch.3. Aran'gar also basically admitted that she wasn't that good in manipulating Egwene.

But it would be a cool twist, if Egwene suddenly turns evil.

I'd agree by and large, but we're left with the possibility that a lot of manipulation occurred. Arangar really could've done anything at the time.

In fact, Arangar wanted to do much more than she did. Here's the summary from the encyclopaedia wot:
Aran'gar buries a body in the snow. She thinks about tonight's dreams. She could wipe out all these Aes Sedai, but the Great Lord would not be pleased. (TPoD,Ch16)

The Forsaken are apparently quite hobbled by their master. Everyone wonders why they don't just run around and cut a huge path through their enemies - it seems the DO's plans are centered more on playing the good guys off each other and keeping them from uniting.
