If he needs to kill someone instead of channeling some sort of complicated weave to replace his lost hand he could just channel lightning, fire or any other number of deadly weaves. It would probably be quicker and a lot easier.
On the other hand if he can't use the One Power for some reason, then he could not use the OP to make a fake hand.
