Re: I expect Rand to die at the end. Huge Cliffhanger.

It's definitely a possibility, that Rand's fate hangs in the balance anyway (that he is "dead yet lives"
.
The book could very well end with the "Three in a boat" scene (this could be its epilogue, actually).
That'd be fine - at least as long as RJ too had in mind to keep Rand's fate mysterious for a few chapters at least, but I really hope Sanderson doesn't overdo the "cliffhangers", by multiplying them artificially for instance (Egwene captured in COT, anyone? It was so lame) eg: by choosing to stop on scenes where the fates of a few characters is in doubt, for instance, or at key moments... e.g.: Lan seing Isam, not showing how the cast reacts to Moiraine's return or how she reacts herself, leaving off Mat/Perrin in scenes where they possibly die etc.). That would suck massively.
Cliffhangers have a way of rapidly feeling most unsatisfying as book endings, and this would be a really bad place to abuse of them, when RJ never planned to have the next chapters split from the last TOM chapters. A chapter cliffhanger might be cool but become really uncool as an end of book cliffhanger, so hopefully Sanderson will thread very carefully about that. Actually, I hope TOM ends more the way TGS did, at satisfying points rather than on artificial cliffhangers.

Agreed, but I think there's a chance we'll learn Demi's identity as part of the climax of ToM. *NM*

Demandred most likely doesn't have a secret identity... more important are his plans and proxies
