I suspect that Taim joined with the shadow sometime after he came to Rand and the Black Tower, not before. He declared himself the Dragon before Rand came out into the open, and despite his comments to Rand that he didn't need to be born on Dragonmount because the histories would have said that he was, I think he may have actually believed it. At least, when he declared himself the Dragon, he didn't realize that the final days were really at hand, and didn't think that the real Dragon would be coming along to spoil it.

I believe Taim is a counterpoint to Demandred, but is NOT actually Demandred himself (as I've seen in other posts).

Just as Demandred joined the Shadow because he would have been the most talented male channeler of his age if it weren't for LTT, Taim joined the shadow when he realized that he wouldn't be very special in a world that had the real Dragon.

I'm interested in the theories that say he will become one of the Chosen, but I can't decide how plausible I think it is.
