But why should Rand be able to tell that the seal is genuine? He can't test its strength as heartsone. He has to be extremely careful with it.

think about it--Rand can't "clear the rubble" without all the seals.


Well, there is a scene in tFoH that implies that there might be some OP weave or something to detect if an object is cuendillar, without actually trying to break it.


"More questions are always good" Morvrin said, but she had stopped fiddling with the ter'angreal to stare at the broken seal as hard as anyone else. It might be cuendillar, she and Beonin had each tested it and said it was, yet she had broken one fragment with her hands


"Tested it" implies a way of figuring out if something is cuendillar without trying to break it. LTT would likely know it which means that even if Rand did not know how to do it before, he surely does now.
