At this point, everyone is familiar with all the various prophecies at work in bringing Matt and Tuon together. I just noticed that the Karaethon Cycle even gave us her new name in advance, Empress Fortuona.
"Fortune rides like the sun on high
with the fox that makes the ravens fly.
Luck his soul, the lightning his eye,
He snatches the moons from out of the sky."
Until I re-read that piece in Encyclopedia Wheel of Time, I had always thought 'Fortune' in that case was a reference to Matt's luck and possibly his growing riches. Now I think it probably has a double meaning, at least. RJ never has that much coincidence in his work.
There is a second line in the Cycle that mentions them as well:
"When the fox marries the raven, and the trumpets of battle are blown."
Could that also be an obscure reference to the fact that Matt is the sounder of the Horn of Valere?
There is also the Foretelling that the damane Lidya gave to Tuon:
"Beware the fox that makes the ravens fly, for he will marry you and carry you away. Beware the man who remembers Hawkwing's face, for he will marry you and set you free. Beware the man of the red hand, for him you will marry and none other."
As well as Egwene's Dreaming:
"Mat wrestling with a Seanchan woman who tied an invisible leash to him."
"Mat spoke strange words she almost understood - the Old Tongue, she thought - and two ravens alighted on his shoulders, claws sinking through his coat into the flesh beneath."
My line of thought and question are actually around the last one, specifically the reference to the ravens sinking their claws into the flesh of his shoulders. Is this just another reference to the marriage? Or something more, something deeper?
The Seekers for Truth have ravens tattooed on their shoulders...
Might this mean that Matt will become a Seeker? Or that his fate is tied up with a Seeker? Like, Almurat Mor, the one who has been actively following Matt's group since The Shadow Rising?
