Taim doesn't really control most of the BT or at least not most of the AM. This is a common mistake. As far as we know, he just has his 100 cronies firmly behind him, while the rest of the AM (IIRC, at least 400-500 men) are still working for Rand. Taim also sent hundreds of AM to help Rand in Arad Doman and Illian, when he is ordered to do so by Rand in KoD.
Thus, I think one also can't say that installing Taim as M'hael was in the end that stupid by Rand, because even if the Shadow got 100 channelers, the vast majority of AM will probably fight for the Light.
Anyway, I think at the latest that Taim uttered "Let the Lord of Chaos rule" made clear that he must be a DF.
