Taim was Ishy's pupil, it makes sense that he would want to use the TP as well, if he usually saw his master using it.
Otherwise, maybe Taim was made into SH's tool at one point, even more than Elza, got certain AoL knowledge and access to the TP (though it's said in WH, that normally only the Nae'blis Moridin is allowed to use it).
But the problem is then, why Taim apparently didn't have the dark aura or the saa before WH.
