Update from Sanderson:

"All is coming together. Exchanged emails with Team Jordan. I suspect the final book will end up around 60 chapters, after combining scenes"


"After what may be known as the Great Chapter Melding of 2010, I merged many shorter chapters together. TofM is now 70 chapters long. This feels like the right number to me. It may change by one or two from here, but I think we're close to final."

And
Q: Has the chapter you mentioned earlier (the painful one that is one of your favorites) changed numbers now?"
A: "Yes. It's #60 now."

And:
"Whew. 67 edited. That took a lot of work. A lot added, a lot cut. End result: Cut by 7.8%. 3 chapters and epilogue left. (About 100 pgs.)"

70 chapters plus the epilogue (and the prologue?) are still some more than any other WoT book has, though some are longer than ToM, IIRC. The most chapters had TSR yet, namely 58.

And by the way, on gay male characters appearing in the books:
Q: "@BrandonSandrson It'd be nice if some gay male characters would get a little visibility in the last book or 2."
A: "@Semirhage666 Will try. Not a lot of room left."
