Manetheren is dead and gone darius_sedai Send a noteboard - 14/08/2010 07:03:32 PM
So, something hit me this morning and I figured it was best expressed here, where other raging fans could hypthesize.

How do you think Elayne is going to react when she meets Perrin? I mean, on the one hand, he has Morgase. This alone will be enough to make her weep with joy. On the other hand, men have been following him around – an ARMY has been following him around! – flying the flag of Manetheren and calling him Lord Perrin Goldeneyes. The Lord bit, I think Elayne would be more than happy to accommodate, given all of his valor and heroism.

But Perrin constantly acts as if the banner doesn’t mean anything; he's not taking it seriously, and he didn't take Faile's advice when it came to stomping it out. He just "hopes that Elayne will be reasonable about it."

But can she afford to be? It is tantamount to rebellion, whatever the circumstances. If Elayne comes down on him too hard, I think Perrin come back at her like a flaming warhammer. I mean, he has some pretty tough questions -- and as the current Queen, even if it isn't Elayne's FAULT, she's accountable for the mess that Andor was in when Emond's Field and the surrounding country got hit.

I can just see the situation becoming volatile over the span of a heartbeat. And with the world so close to Tarmon Gaidon, people can't afford rebellion.

“Where were you when the trollocs washed over Emond’s Field? Where was the White Lion when the Children came knocking at our doorstep? What did the Queensguard do when my entire family was slaughtered wholesale?”

And, let’s not forget, he’s ta’veren. In lieu of all this, do you think we’ll see Manatherin ride into the Last Battle alongside Andor? Or will Lord Perrin Goldeneyes find himself governing his territory with the Queen’s consent?

Penny for your thoughts.

Elayne will be relieved to hear that Perrin swore to never raise the banner again. But as Queen of Andor she may not be too pleased that a man technically within her borders has taken the Oath of another Queen. Weak nation or not, having a Queen oath bound to him makes Perrin a force to be reckoned with in the WOT world. Not to mention his marriage to the Heir apparent of Saldaea! With Arad Domon essentially a broken nation now, Perrin and Faile are poised to become the most powerful force in the Northwest of the continent.
