Now see, this is what I was referring to above. The Dragon dying is not slight, as he is a key player in the Pattern. A recurring soul, a ta'averen cannot die and be considered slight.
Ok, I agree. The premature death of the Dragon - ta'veren and all - being "slight" might have been something of an understatement. But we could replace that entry with "an important general" or "a certain Aes Sedai" or something and still reach a very different outcome of the battle.
IMO, and I think many people agree with this, the Dark One represents Chaos (Let the Lord of Chaos rule), and the Creator represents stability. Except, as entities, and not really, IMO anyway, beings, they don't just represent these ideas, but ARE these ideas.
Well, it's about here that it comes down to personal opinions. Some would say that the DO equals chaos and the Creator equals stability, while some (re: me) would say that the DO and the Creator are mirror images; exactly the same but different.
If the DO is chaos, the universe would be spammed upon his release. If the DO is the Creator's reflection, nothing would really change in the long run - but the outcome would still be dramatical for the poor souls who inhibit the world at this time.
The point is that, no matter the DO being "evil" or not, the actions of the characters matter.
I personally like my theory (of course, that is because it's my theory
).

And I personally like my theory (but, of course, that is because it's my theory
