I have been thinking on the 3 wives question for a while my self, although I personally am not a fan of the following thought, it wasn't mentioned so I will throw it out there.
Darwinism. Having 3 wives means that he can have multiple offsprings at a higher rate then with one wife. This may be the pattern's way to stack the odds on Rand not becoming a "Kinslayer". Or only killing some but not all of his kin.
I know the taint has been cleansed and Rand will not get crazier, but perhaps the Pattern didnt know that would happen for sure. Ta'verens are there to "correct" any threads that have strayed too far from the Pattern's designs. This means that even though there are prophesies, there is no pre-determined fate.
In conclusion, Pattern stacks favor for Rand incase he didn't cleanse taint. Pattern turned Rand into a Mormon.
