it's not so much that they are dumb... they just have no common sense!

As simple as that. Since the scene was so great, it's fine by me.
Plus hour of my death sounds way better.
Oh, and you must've been reading a different series if you think most Aes Sedai are very clever, there's nothing indicating they are smarter than the average person and we've seen so many dumb mistakes by them throughout the series.

Honestly, the entire structure of the WT is based on these women being highly educated. However, there is no encouragement that we've seen for any AS to leave the Tower. Most of these women are basically academics who do not truly understand the real world.
Personally I think this is why much younger women like Elayne and Egwene come off as looking so much smarter... they've lived lives that required more than just studying the human condition from a book.
The Kin, the WO and the WF are all much more "street smart" ... but I doubt any of them could give you the details of the 5th Treaty of Flame or some Shiotan war of succession

Don't confuse lack of understanding people/no common sense with being thick witted... any AS is quick enough to find the loop holes in their Oaths!
Domani Drag Queen in the White Tower ... Aran'gar watch out!
Why is there a loophole in the Dark Oaths?

As far as we know, they're just regular Oath Rod oaths. There's no surveillance

Although given how we know Oaths work, they wouldn't have to die.
