I think the gray man is a good example (though it's not "one" character). It had potential to be super scary, but then everyone and their mom could detect and kill one, and they never killed anyone who had a name. Same with Mydraahl.

I was thinking of people who were scary characters at first and then became jokes, like Carridin (sp?), Liandrin, Ishy, Moghidien...I need to start my reread because they always strike me as "Oh, I remember when I thought they were going to be cool".

I sound like such a snob right now. :<img class=' />
