The one (although still weak) point of Lanfear's motive was provided by Asmo. He was telling Rand that if Lanfear really wanted Asmo to teach Rand she would have linked with them to allow Asmo show Rand a lot. But she wanted to Rand to be weak. But in the docks he was holding his ground in one-on-one fight with her and was able to slice her weaves. Asmo was there, at the docks and I can see Lanfear blaming Asmo for teaching Rand too much and since she started to want Rand dead, eliminating the teacher is a good place to start.


Yes she is insane enough for that. My biggest problem with the Lanfear theory is that she would have had to kill him as Lanfear for him to go pale and recognize her. There's more than a hint that she was held by the Finns and probably murdered by them. I don't really see how she could have used her old body for a short time before becoming Cyndane.
