There really isn't a matter of life or death to Ishmael. He believes the dark one, like the creator is eternal. Therefore he can/will always be revived, and in the worst case scenario, reborn in another age.
It is all a game to him, whereas it is a matter of grave importance to everyone else, especially Rand.
