Honestly, I think the Shadow sent in an agent that was skilled enough to find Lanfear, but didn't have to worry about getting back out. The agent (whether Compelled, turned, or a honest-to-goodness true believer) went in, found and killed Lanfear, maybe made some wishes to help out the Shadow, and died. Lanfear is transmigrated after having only some of her potential eaten.
