Personally, it's good to see a member of the Lightside seem to have a divine revelation that gives them focus. I think the protagonists can be small-minded at times, and its exciting to me to finally see Mat (in his own way), Elayne, Egwene and Rand start stepping into leadership roles and make big decisions that show a grand scope of vision.

I actually think it is interesting to see other readers opinions of him. He's acting more and more like an Aes Sedai (in some ways, very similar to Cadsuane), and many readers don't seem to like this maturation of his character.
