I think the whole scene should be taken with a pinch of salt. I don't think Rand's angreal is all that impressive. Lanfear starts to draw more and more as she battles him - it's her intention to slowly overwhelm him and break him down painfully. He mentions that her attacks are getting stronger and faster all the time. She probably didn't use the angreal's full potential. She only needed to draw a little extra anyway to overwhelm any man, so drawing the full force of it would have been pointless.



I'm inclined to agree with this more, the angreal was retconned. many time's we've seen that a 'weak' angreal can only double, triple your strength, but later against other angreal that appears to be a strong angreal.

Vora's sa'angreal that Egwene used when linked with the Novices is supposed to be a) a sa'angreal b) the most powerful sa'angreal that the Aes Sedai possess, so I would imagine it would be QUITE strong, yet even linked to a dozen novices and going thru the sa'angreal Egwene isn't THAT powerful. She can't obliterate every raken/to'raken instantly on site like say Rand has done to Trollocs/Fades etc.

Anyway the point is I dont think there's really any hard and fast rules on angreal/sa'angreal that RJ/BS follow. I think they just write them however they feel like they want it to be each time. it isnt treated as sacrilege to change the ability of them depending on the situation.
