Elayne taking over Cairhien is a good thing in terms of preparing for the Last Battle. Now the local nobles can concentrate on preparing for the Last battle and not waste their time and efforts only on political manipulations.

Except they are. In fact, political manipulations was the entire point of the Sun Throne arc. And then someone tried to assassinate her. We are told that Elayne's schemes have created two powerful political enemies for her who are eager to kill her and claim her thrones. This hasn't created less political manipulation, it has created more.

At the end of the day, the Cairhienins weren't conquered, their nobles chose Elayne themselves (OK, nudged by Rand and the knowledge of Elayne's armies and the dragons, but still...) and not much will change for them except more political stability.

That could also be said of Colavaere.

With the Last battle coming, not to mention the Seanchan, any sane ruler would be ecstatic if presented with a powerful new weapon like the Dragons. It doesn't mean Elayne wants to conquer the world. Even if her two kingdoms remain intact after the LB, she'll have more than enough on her plate trying to keep Andor and Cairhien under her control to think about new conquests. With so much unclaimed land north of Andor, they can expand this way if they feel strong enough without having to attack any country.

In a short time, Andor has already increased its territory to include Ghealdan, Cairhien and parts of Murandy, and it has multiplied its military power. Why is it exactly that I should not suspect that conquests are planned for the future? It's like claiming that because the Seanchan bring stability to the nations they have conquered, their invasion is a good thing.

I don't have any problems with this - they are trying to get more power to survive. - 09/11/2010 04:08:22 PM 980 Views
If that power is needed to survive, how will those she takes it from survive? - 09/11/2010 09:23:15 PM 920 Views
