Garath was the Captain-General, Gawyn was to be the First Prince of the Sword, his superior. There is a difference.


Not in regard to how he would achieve fame and glory, I don't think. They're the same responsibilities - in Gareth's case, anyway, since Morgase didn't have a First Prince of the Sword.

Several times there is talk about how the lack of a FP hurt Morgases. Galad was the one that would be forced to go out and find his way in the world, Gawyn always had a place, but he found something that was more important to him than that place (Egwene) but couldn't figure out how to reconcile everyting, and ended up lost.


The role he now has to assume for Egwene is pretty much identical to the one he was to have assumed for Elayne as First Prince of the Sword, in respects to the obedience/loyalty issues that were the crux of Gawyn's arc. Of course the responsibilities differ somewhat in that Egwene's Warder won't have control of Tar Valon's armies, but other than that, they're remarkably similar.
The first rule of being a ninja is "do no harm". Unless you intend to do harm, then do lots of harm.
