Her obsession with LTT was probably what held her back from achieving more.
And I agree with moratcorlm. Even though drilling the Bore had cataclysmic repercussions, the thought behind the act was one of scientific purpose.
Hopefully when Rand and Co. reseal the DO, they will post a sign over the "thin" area saying, "Do Not Drill. Big Bad on Other Side."
Maybe construct an outpost with a guy punching in special weaves to maintain the warning/failsafe.
